Look! I’m on the news!

A couple of weeks ago, while at work seeing patients, one of the Communications Managers came to my office and asked if I would do a quick interview for Time Warner Cable News regarding colds and flus.  The camera and crew would arrive an about an hour. It had been a while since I had been on TV (and I hadn’t worked with this station before), so I was a little nervous, but I agreed to do it.

This also meant I had to do something with my makeup so I could look presentable.  This didn’t mean that I wasn’t already presentable, but when you’re on camera or TV, you need “film makeup” which is heavier than every day makeup.  As a rule, I tend to go very light on my daily makeup at work, just wearing a light foundation, mascara and lip gloss.  I don’t want to draw attention to myself.  I’d rather have the focus be on my patient and how I can help him or her achieve his or her health goals.

Thankfully, I had my makeup bag with me.  It pays to be prepared!  So I touched up my hair and makeup in a few minutes and was ready when the TV crew came in for the interview.  Yes, I was still a little nervous, but I reminded myself that I talk to strangers all day, and so this should be no different.  It worked.  Also I reminded myself that this was not a live broadcast, so it could be edited in case I fumbled for words.

The reporter came in with her camera and an intern.  They were very nice and had their TV makeup on, very professional.  They made me feel at ease.  The interview was over before I knew it, and it went well!  I just answered questions as if I were talking to a patient.  I’ve been treating patients for over 13 years, so it came as second nature.

Here’s the video. Let me know what you think. Oh, and if anyone out there is looking for a latina Family Doc for some promotional videos, send them my way!
