How to Turn Any Negative into Positive When You’re Having a Bad Day

We’ve talked about how to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, but it’s not always as easy as just turning a positive thought into action. Sometimes you just have a horrible day and get completely eaten up by one derailment after another. These are the days when you have to think a little bit outside the box if you still want to be a positive person who thinks optimistically about everything in life.

Here are some tips on how to turn these negative thoughts into positive ones, even when it looks like everything is going wrong.

Why bother?

First of all: Why do you need to reformulate your negative thoughts? Technically, you don’t need to, but it can help you keep a positive attitude in your life. It is not what happens to you that defines you, but how you deal with it. Everyone has things that go wrong or unexpectedly wrong in their life, but not everyone has a negative attitude towards them. Why? Because some people have learned to deal with the bad things and somehow turn them into good things, even if they only have a positive influence on something that has gone really badly.

Write everything down

If you are a little overwhelmed by all the negative things that happen on a particularly bad day, just take a step back, take a breath and write it down. Take out your diary and write down everything that happened. Describe in detail why you are having a bad day, what happened or went wrong and what you did about it.

In some cases you may find positive results if you write everything down. In other cases, you may simply feel a little lighter if you have vented by writing down your thoughts. And in other situations you may find that you didn’t have the best response to something and that you were the reason it went badly. This intention is a really important lesson to learn in order to move forward.

There is (almost) always a positive spin

This may not apply to all the bad things in your life, but in most situations you can achieve a positive effect. You may have made a mistake, learned from it and will try not to make it again in the future. Or the positive aspect is simply that the bad or embarrassing moment is over and you don’t have to experience it now.

In other situations you may have had to go somewhere else because the place you normally visit was closed, and while that put you in a bad mood, you met someone new in this new place. Appreciate and cherish these unexpected moments, for they really do give you much more positivity.

At the end of the day, if you are still struggling, you should simply be aware that the day is over and you can now leave it behind.
