3 Easy Ways to Strengthen Your Immune System This Spring

We all have times when we could use a little extra boost for our immune system. The cold and flu season is certainly one of them, or the long quarantine weeks when we are stuck indoors and more likely to catch something. It is also important whenever you get on a plane or when your children go to school. Here are three simple things you can do every day to strengthen your immune system. You get the best results if you use them every day. Let’s get started.

Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables

All systems of your body work best when they are fed properly. This includes your immune system. Stick to a diet based mainly on whole food, with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you feel that you may be suffering a little from the weather or suspect that you have been in contact with a sick person, increasing your vitamin C intake can also help. Eat some citrus fruits. Broccoli, cauliflower and kale are other good options.

Avoid eating processed foods. It takes a lot of time and effort to digest them, and you don’t want to burden your body with extra work if this energy could be used to strengthen your immune system, prevent illness or speed up recovery.

Getting some exercise

In addition to a good diet, you should exercise regularly. You will achieve the best results if you exercise in fresh air. Something as simple as a quick daily walk can help you stay healthy and strengthen your body. It has the added benefit of helping you reduce stress. I don’t need to tell you that you are more likely to get sick when you are stressed. Use daily exercise to destroy stress and stay healthy. It will also help you as a last resort to strengthen your immune system.

Take time to sleep

This last tip is easy to skip, but it is the most important one for most of us and can give your immune system a big boost. It’s to get enough sleep. Take the time to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Practice good sleep hygiene. Do not let the word frighten you. It means turning off your phone and other monitors a few hours before going to bed. Keep your bedroom quiet, still and at a temperature that promotes sleep. This includes establishing a bedtime routine and following it. An added bonus is that you will feel more motivated to do everything else you need to do throughout the day.
