ArtNaturals Argan Shampoo & Conditioner: My 2017 Wash-Day Review

A look back at a wash-day favorite, with clearer expectations.

The hair edit · From my 2017 review

Soft, silky, manageable hair was what I enjoyed about this ArtNaturals duo. Those everyday details are worth keeping, without turning a good wash day into a hair-growth promise.

Originally reviewed September 28, 2017 · Revisited October 29, 2026. This is a historical review, not a new product test.

01 / The personal part

The finish I liked on my long, wavy hair

I have long, thick, wavy/curly hair, and my original review focused on how it felt after using this shampoo and conditioner. I described it as soft, silky and smooth, with no frizz during that experience. It felt manageable, and I wrote that I could not stop touching it!

That is the part of the review I can stand behind as a personal observation. I liked the feel of my hair. The original review did not document measured new growth, hair counts or a controlled comparison.

The products were reviewed together, so the experience does not tell me how much of the finish came from the shampoo versus the conditioner, or which individual ingredient was responsible.

  • My hair at the timeLong, thick and wavy/curly.
  • What I reportedSoftness, silkiness, a smooth feel and easier manageability.
  • What was not establishedHair regrowth, prevention of hair loss, treatment of a scalp condition or a result that everyone will get.

A pleasing finish is a useful review detail. It does not need a bigger promise.

02 / Keep the date attached

The bottles belong to that review

The brown bottles and their packaging are part of my 2017 experience. They should not be read as a picture of the formula or packaging sold today.

This revisit does not include a test of a current ArtNaturals formula. This revisit does not verify today’s ingredient list, availability, fragrance status, certifications, price or promotions. Check the exact product label and current seller information if you are considering a purchase.

My original post also mentioned the amount of lather. I would not use foam alone to judge whether a shampoo is effective, gentle or suitable for someone else. Nor would I repeat the old suggestion that a “natural” product is automatically safer.

The FDA explains that an ingredient’s source does not determine its safety. Plant-derived ingredients can still cause a reaction. What matters is the finished product, its directions and whether it agrees with your skin and hair.

03 / A necessary distinction

Softness is not evidence of regrowth

My earlier article went beyond what a personal shampoo review could show. I am not keeping its claims about preventing hair loss, stimulating follicles, healing the scalp or providing UV protection. The photographs are historical context, not treatment evidence.

In its guidance on female-pattern hair loss, the American Academy of Dermatology distinguishes fuller-looking hair or reduced breakage from regrowth. A shampoo’s cosmetic effect does not establish that it treats the underlying cause of thinning.

The FDA also distinguishes ordinary cleansing cosmetics from products intended to restore hair growth. A claim about growth needs more than an ingredient story or a good-looking photograph.

If you notice unexpected shedding, new thinning or patches of hair loss, speak with a dermatologist or another qualified clinician rather than relying on a shampoo review. Finding the cause is the starting point for appropriate care.

04 / A practical next wash day

What I would pay attention to now

I would keep the evaluation simple: does my scalp feel comfortable, does the product cleanse as needed, and are the lengths easier to manage? A routine can be useful without replacing every bottle on the shelf.

01

Choose the rhythm for your hair

Wash according to how oily or dirty your scalp and hair become, not a rule that everyone must shampoo daily. Hair type and your usual styling routine matter.

02

Give the scalp a gentle cleanse

Follow the shampoo label. Concentrate cleansing on the scalp rather than repeatedly rubbing and tangling all the lengths.

03

Make conditioner earn its place

Use it where your hair needs help with softness and tangles. Dry or curly hair may benefit along the length; fine or straight hair may need it mainly at the ends.

04

Handle tangles patiently

Work from the ends upward instead of pulling through knots. Detangling timing differs by hair type; avoid rough towel rubbing and excessive heat.

These basics follow AAD’s healthy-hair guidance. They are everyday care, not an individualized plan for hair loss. Stop using a product that causes a reaction and seek help for persistent or concerning symptoms.

Two basics, without a treatment promise

Common questions

Before you choose a bottle

Did this shampoo regrow my hair?

My review did not measure or establish regrowth. It recorded how my hair felt when I used the shampoo and conditioner together in 2017.

Is this a review of today’s ArtNaturals formula?

No. It is a revisit of my historical experience, with original photographs. No current formula is tested in this update.

Does sulfate-free mean a shampoo is safer?

That label alone does not establish safety or suitability. Read the full ingredient list and directions, consider known sensitivities, and pay attention to how your scalp responds.

Can I use the old photographs as a before-and-after comparison?

No. They are personal photographs retained from the original article, not a controlled comparison or evidence of a treatment result.

Do I need a different shampoo for new thinning?

A new bottle is not a diagnosis. Discuss unexpected thinning, patchy loss or persistent scalp symptoms with a qualified clinician so the cause can be assessed.
