As you have learned from our previous blog entries on this topic – and if you follow our challenge of positive thinking – positive thinking has many benefits every day. It helps you with your emotional and physical health, from improving your daily life and reducing stress to your physical health and well-being.
If you want to learn to think more positively every day, here are some tips to get you started.
Have more confidence in your own abilities
Most of the time, many of your negative thoughts are related to fears you have about your own abilities, and are not rational at all. Are many of your negative thoughts during the day related to your opinion that you are failing or that you believe you will never succeed? These are the thoughts that relate to your own self-confidence. Start acting with self-confidence, understanding your best abilities and really acting on them. Focus on your best skills and qualities instead of drowning in the abilities you think you don’t have.
Act with caution
It is also important that you act intentionally, which also helps you to transform your thoughts into more positive ones. Understanding what you are doing and why you are doing it automatically gives you more confidence in what you can achieve. This will help you to feel good about yourself and what you have achieved, which in itself contributes greatly to your positive attitude throughout the day.
Find your triggers for negative thinking
If you have days when it is difficult to overcome certain negative thoughts, try to find reasons for these thoughts. Was it because of an unexpected event? Do you have an anxiety disorder that leads to irrational fears? Is there someone in your life who causes these negative thoughts? What influence do the news or social media have on your way of thinking?
These and many other things can be triggers for your negative thinking. If you find triggers, you can handle these situations better so that you can avoid them and hopefully develop a more positive way of thinking.
Search for humor
Sometimes bad things happen in your life that create a negative story and you just have to laugh about it. If your car breaks down on the way to work, or you experience an embarrassing moment you can’t stop thinking about, just keep going, understand that you can’t take it back, and laugh about it.
