The recent outbreak of coronavirus has left millions of parents around the world facing the impossible task of being parents, workers and teachers.
It is difficult enough to get through the day trying to work with children from home. But having to teach them at home at the same time can turn into a real nightmare.
If you are trying to find the right balance in this unprecedented situation, you can follow some tips. Here we will outline some of the steps you can take to fulfill your new role without losing your mind.
Create and work according to a schedule
The only thing that will prove invaluable during this time is the creation and adherence to a schedule. The children need a schedule, and you need one that will help you keep up with your increased responsibilities. Start by creating a schedule for the children. You can include educational activities, play times and meals. If they know what they are working on and have a schedule to stick to, it will make it so much easier for them and you. The children need a routine, and they will be much happier if they follow one.
Take time for physical activity.
It can be difficult to work when the children have a lot of energy. So why don’t you help them burn off that energy so that you can work in peace?
Getting them to do physical activity will help exhaust them and keep them healthy. So encourage them to run around in the garden. You could take a mini-attack course or look online for physical games to play. When they are done with their physical activity, they are more likely to play quietly for a while.
Do not try to become a teacher.
Now that the kids are no longer in school, you may feel that you need to become a teacher. You really do not. It is not your job to do research and familiarize yourself with the subjects they are dealing with at school.
Instead, concentrate on educational activities that they can do, such as reading. You can also set up things like sensory buckets and let them use educational apps. If the school has provided them with digital works that they can follow, don’t forget to use them as well. If you search online, you might also find free workbooks that they can use.
Talk to your employer about any problems
If you have problems juggling everything, do not be afraid to talk to your employer. They may give you extra days off so that you can get used to the new rules.
Remember that many people are in the same situation as you. It is not easy, but remember that it is only temporary. The above tips will help you to cope better with your new responsibilities during this time.
