Now that you have a pretty good idea of what you want to do in the morning, what you don’t want or need to do, and where you can find the extra time you need, it’s time to put it all together in a new morning schedule.
It is best to start with the new tasks that are most important to you. Think about a preparation time in which you want to complete them. If your goal is to go running in the morning, you may decide to do this first, before you shower and have breakfast. If your goal is to meditate every morning, you may decide that it works best after you have had a cup of coffee. If your goal is to find some time in the morning to read or do your favorite hobby, you could take some time before everyone else gets up and while you enjoy your first cup of coffee. The same applies if you want to have time in the morning to work on your business or learn something new.
Then spend the rest of the morning working on these new plans. You may have to push things around and mix up your current routine, but with a little creative thinking and a little flexibility you can certainly create a work plan.
For most of us, it is not natural to turn the morning into a new routine. It takes a while before you can put yourself in the groove of things. We will deal with this in more detail tomorrow. For now, I suggest that you write down your new game plan for tomorrow. It’s easy to forget what you have in mind. Writing it down will not only give you a clue that you can fall back on, but will also cement your new plan in your memory.
Put the piece of paper or notebook in which you wrote down your new plan on your bedside table or in another place where you will see it first thing in the morning. It will serve as a reminder of what you have planned and what you want to do differently now tomorrow morning.
Even if you have written down your plan, it is important to realize that it is not set in stone. Well thought-out plans do not always work when they are put into practice. Adjust it and make changes if necessary until you have a new game plan for the morning that works well for you and the rest of your family. Once you have this, it is time to make it the new routine… something we will talk more about tomorrow.
