During the winter season, you wrap up, enjoy evening firesides and perhaps decorate your home for the holidays. While it can be a wonderful time of year, your beauty tends to take a beating, especially with your skin. Here are some DIY products you can make yourself that will make a drastic difference.
Sugar scrub with honey
This first DIY product is perfect for taking care of your skin in the winter. Raw honey is on the top of the list of the best natural ingredients to moisturize your skin, plus it really protects it from irritation and cracking due to the cold, fast winds. You can use either white or brown sugar for this sugar scrub, with brown sugar being good for a seasonal flair. You can mix the sugar with just enough olive oil and raw honey to create an exfoliating consistency, and then add a few essential oils for fragrance. Vanilla is a wonderful scent for this scrub, but any scent will do.
Lotion with shea butter
If you’re interested in making your own lotion or body moisturizer for winter, shea butter is definitely an ingredient you’ll want to use. It’s pretty easy to find and super simple to work with. You could always make some sort of mask with shea butter and rinse it off, but for a traditional lotion, you might want to add a few more ingredients. First and foremost, you’ll want to add oil, but test a few oils to see which one is dry. Some people find coconut oil drying, while others don’t react well to olive oil. Jojoba oil is another great oil to use. You will also need some essential oils for scent and aromatherapy for the lotion. You use about 2 tablespoons of oil per ½ cup of shea butter, with just a few drops of your essential oils for this lotion. Shop Ecco Bella Lotions
Treatment for dry skin
This last DIY product is for dry skin, but it’s more about treating dry and cracked skin, as opposed to using a regular lotion to prevent dryness. Again, it uses shea butter and oil, but it uses more than one moisturizing oil, plus some beeswax and essential oils. The regular moisturizing oils you should use are argan oil and coconut oil. Choose essential oils that are good for your skin instead of using them just for the scent. Some good options are lavender, rose and frankincense.
