In my blog post yesterday, I showed you how to get started with self-care. Creating habits and adding activities to your calendar will increase the likelihood that you will stick to your new routine. Another way to keep things interesting is to treat yourself to things you’ve always wanted to do. Adding new and unusual experiences to your self-care routine is like giving yourself a little gift every day. This way, you stay motivated to do something for yourself.
Pamper yourself
When you pamper yourself physically, you feel good about yourself. For many people, pampering is part of their self-care routine. Consider doing something you’ve never done before. It doesn’t have to be expensive. A small act of pampering can have the same effect as an extravagant action. Maybe treat yourself to a manicure if you’ve never had one before. A bubble bath with candles can be very soothing if you don’t do it very often. If your budget allows, a spa day with a friend could rejuvenate your body and mind.
Celebrate today
Most of us don’t often give ourselves a gift or even treat ourselves to little treats. You can change that starting right now. Consider something you’ve wanted for a long time that’s within your budget. Then allow yourself to buy it. Maybe it’s that fancy pair of shoes you’ve had your eye on for a long time or that cell phone upgrade that would make your life easier. Giving yourself a gift, no matter how small, can boost your self-esteem.
Enjoy the little things
Self-care really doesn’t have to be done on a grand scale. The smallest gestures can be the most significant. Treating yourself to small free or inexpensive treats can help you pamper yourself more often. What are the little things you’ve never done for yourself that you can incorporate into your life today? Have you ever bought yourself flowers? Why don’t you give it a try? Every time you see the beautiful bouquet on your table or desk, you will get a new sense of gratitude. Think about your favorite food that you eat on special occasions. Why not make one day a week special by trying a new version of it? For example, resolve to try a new truffle at your favorite chocolate store each week. Get creative in the process.
Adding new experiences to your self-care routine will keep things interesting and can also help make them more meaningful. New things will also expand your world and enrich your life. Plus, it’s just plain fun!
