In case you missed it, we are exposed to chemicals and toxins every day; in products, food, and the environment. A lot of people have been making New Year’s Resolutions to “detox,” but do they really know what that means or why it’s important? Basically, it means getting rid of the chemicals that have built up in our bodies (especially through the skin, our body’s largest organ).
Have you ever thought about detoxifying your hair? It might not make sense right away, because we “wash” our hair regularly, and it might not look “dirty,” but in fact might look shiny and sleek. However, if you stop to look at what you are putting on your hair – shampoo, conditioner, styling products, serums, etc, and what ingredients they have, you might realize that these products contain a lot of chemicals that can be quite toxic, but are not easy to come off the hair follicles and shafts. 90% of hair products contain dimethicone or other silicone derivative which makes your hair shiny, but traps these synthetic chemicals to your hair strands, even after multiple washes! If you have been using these for a long time, it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months to completely detox your hair! Hair that is loaded and coated with these hair products becomes heavy and dull.
Volcanic Secrets Within’s Wyoming Bentonite Clay is the perfect ingredient for detoxifying your hair and scalp!
Mined directly from the earth, rich in beneficial minerals (silica, calcium, iron, magnesium, sodium, and potassium) it is 100 percent natural and organic. The American Indians referred to it as a miraculous natural clay called “ee-wah-kee” meaning the mud that heals. Now it is commonly and widely known as the “healing clay.” The reason being, is that bentonite has a strong negative electromagnetic charge and when activated by water it swells open like a sponge absorbing 7-10 times its weight and 18 times its dry volume acting as a powerful magnet in and on our bodies absorbing and removing toxins, impurities, heavy metals, and chemicals thus helping to restore the body to a healthy pH balance. This unique quality combined with its mineral enriched properties naturally transports oxygen to cells and improves blood circulation while detoxifying, purifying, healing, and replenishing/regenerating skin tissue. This process results in the reduction of the appearance of scar tissue, acne, fine lines, and uneven skin tone while improving the look of the skin giving it a firmer vital, fresh, healthy glow.
Bentonite has been dubbed “the clay of a 1,000 uses” because of its versatility. It can be used externally in the following ways: Skin poultice for bites, burns, cuts, and stings; Skin paste to calm itching and irritation due to eczema, psoriasis, chicken pox, rashes, blemishes, etc… Mud pack/mask for smooth and healthy skin; A detox bath to rejuvenate the skin; As an ingredient in homemade skin care recipes. Check out my related posts to see other uses that I have tried.
Watch as I detox my hair:
Detox Hair Mask
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Volcanic Secrets Within Wyoming bentonite clay powder
- 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/4 cup organic apple cider vinegar
- 3-5 drops rosemary oil
Instructions:
- Mix bentonite clay, coconut oil and apple cider vinegar together
- Work into hair and scalp. As you do this, you will also be gently exfoliating your scalp, which is an essential step to any skin care routine (your scalp is part of your skin, too!).
- Put on shower cap and allow to sit for 20-30 minutes. (Optional – add heat by sitting near a heater)
- Don’t let the mixture dry!
- Rinse with cold water as this will close the cuticles and add a beautiful sheen. (Optionally, rinse with 1 cup of vinegar and allow to sit for 1-3 minutes)
- shampoo with a natural, nontoxic shampoo. Let air dry
- Result. Your hair and scalp should feel fresh, light and super clean!
I recommend you try this daily for a week then weekly!
Very interesting article! Does the clay mask remove grease? Does it act as a shampoo?
Yes it does remove grease. It does not lather like a shampoo, though
Ooh. It’s my first time hearing about Volcanic Secrets Within’s Wyoming Bentonite Clay or just healing clay in general. Want to try it but a bit skeptical about rinsing my hair with vinegar because I can’t stand how it smells.
Adding the essential oil helps give it a pleasant aroma
I also use Bentonite clay on my skin and hair and really helps with the hair texture and overall health. Love this.
I need to give this a try. My hair could use the help. Your hair looks fabulous!
I am awful with my hair! I should really try some of these products!
I’ve never heard of doing anything like this before. It sounds really interesting. I’m sure my hair and scalp could use you a good detox!
I have a lot of damage to my hair, so I would be willing to give this a shot. Anything to make my hair look refreshed.
Amazing! I knew that fancy shampoos are full of sillicone but I didn’t realise there was options out there to undo the damage. I love clay masks for my face, but didn’t know you could use it on hair too. I’ll keep my eye out for this product in the UK.
Interesting! Have you noticed any faster growth? I’m currently trying to detox my hair and let it grow out.
Actually Yes! Especially with the help of the essential oil
You have very healthy hair! Will have to give this detox a try!
never actually heard of detoxing your hair! but i think if one can detox the body why not the hair too? now im curious!
You are a wonderful spokeslady for this brand because your hair is peefection’! I will definitely give this a try!!!
This is too cool. Thank you for the hair mask recipe! Can’t wait to give it a try!
I discovered bentonite clay last year but never got the chance to try it. I’ll def put it on my supply list.
Good to know about this. Your hair looks fabulous. Will try to find where I can source it in India.
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely video, your hair is so bouncy and nice.
I need to give this a try! I used bentonite clay on my face but never thought of using it on my hair!
Your hair looks amazing, so healthy and shiny. I want to detox my hair because it’s really drab looking lately. If it looks half as good as yours, it will be worth it to me.
I do detox my hair monthly to cleanse it thoroughly and also to give my scalp a little pampering. Haven’t tried using a volcanic detox for hair, but now am intrigue!
never tried a clay mask for hair… This sounds great, cant wait to try it 🙂
Your post actually came at a perfect time! I just recently dyed my hair a few months back and ever since, my hair definitely hasn’t been the same. I am almost positive that the chemicals in the dye as well as the loads of shampoo and conditioner I used afterwards has had something to do with it lol. This is the first I’m hearing about a hair detox, but I am totally bookmarking this to look into the product more. Thank you so much!
I have never done a hair detox. It looks like something I would be open to trying for sure.
This is fantastic, I am glad you are sharing a way to undo the damage we do to our hair constantly. I love the idea of detoxing your hair.
What a fabulous way to detox hair. We always think about a body detox but never a hair one!
Volcanic Secrets Within’s Wyoming Bentonite Clay seems like a good product. My gf will love it for sure!
